In June of 1997, Cats became the longest-running musical in Broadway history with 6,138 performances. It closed in New York in September of 2000, after a total of 7,485 performances, remaining Broadway's fourth-longest-running show in history. In 1998, the touring production of Cats dazzled audiences in Raleigh, delivering Andrew Lloyd Webber's music to a very appreciative audience.
