A film presented at the NC Latin American Film Festival 2017. Mario Dimas and Maria Luciano are preparing to be wedding godparents. Fulfilling this commitment will require the help of their entire family, spending a year’s savings and traveling more than 2,000 miles from Newton, North Carolina, where they have lived for 18 years, to their native Santa Fe de la Laguna, a Purepecha indigenous community in Michoacán, Mexico. The documentary offers an intimate, subtle but complex perspective of the Dimas Luciano family in their daily effort to transmit Purepecha culture to their children and nourish the connection with their community in Mexico, while integrating into life in the Southern United States.
