Wanting to work with record producer Glyn Johns, Eric Clapton laid down guitar-hero riffs on tracks such as "Cocaine" and "Wonderful Tonight", the latter track becoming one of the album's hit singles, along with "Lay Down Sally". "Slowhand" was one of Clapton's critically most successful studio albums, the title matching Clapton's ironic nickname.
