Pink Floyd's follow-up to "The Dark Side of the Moon" featured two of the album's four songs criticizing the music business, while another track conveys a sense of alienation. The multi-part track "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is a tribute to Syd Barrett. The original guitarist's mental breakdown had forced him to leave the group seven years earlier, just before the release of the group's second studio album.
