Pure technique on seven strings. A succinct description of pyrotechnical, mega-heavy, earth-crushing Spanish guitarist David Valdes follow up to his exciting 2002 debut "Paradise Lost", this time entitled Imhotep. Since Tony MacAlpine doesn't make records like his late '80s neo-classical turns on Shrapnel any more, it opens up the field for a guitarist with the talent and ability like Valdes displays. Influenced by greats such as Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, Vinnie Moore and others, Valdes packs Imhotep with blistering riffs, while exhibiting a forceful and dynamic interplay with drummer Ferren Roch. The track "In Darkness" features solo trades with guitarists Amaldo Garcia and Stephen Forte. All instrumental, Imhotep is the perfect companion disc to "Paradise Lost", and should be in every neo-classical fan's music library.
