If you like virtuoso guitar playing but you're sick of wading through lots of meaningless notes to get to a melody, check out Momentum. Along with bassist Ricky Wolking and drummer Glen Sobel, guitarist Jennifer Batten provides new music that is a hybrid of rock and exotic sounds, as she conjures up a fretboard storm and a whirlwind of ingenuity. There's not a boring cut on the disc -- Momentum offers gargantuan licks and lots of great melodies and always-interesting solos. Batten's definitely got the chops, but she's not afraid to let the song come first.
