In early December 2011, the New York Giants were in deep trouble, staggered by a four-game losing streak that wiped out a 6-2 start and threatened to keep them out of postseason play. But a decisive win over the Cowboys earned the Giants a division crown on the final day of the season. Once in the playoffs, Big Blue took down the Falcons, Packers and 49ers to reach the Super Bowl for the second time under head coach Tom Coughlin. And in that rematch of Super Bowl XLII, the results were the same: Another Giant victory over the AFC's top-seeded New England Patriots.

Green Bay has won more championships than any franchise in NFL history. But it is unlikely that any of those were more difficult to achieve than the one claimed by the 2010 Packers. Early on, head coach Mike McCarthy's squad was plagued by a staggering 15 players lost to injury, including six opening day starters. Beginning in mid-December, the Pack had to win every week simply to qualify for the postseason.

After waiting for 43 years, the patience of long-suffering fans in the Gulf Coast region was finally rewarded. The New Orleans Saints, long the symbol of football futility, enjoyed the greatest year in franchise history. They posted the team's best-ever regular-season record, then earned their first-ever trip to the Super Bowl. The Saints then completed a storybook finish by upsetting the favored Colts to claim their first Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Two weeks into the 2007 season, the New York Giants were a lost team. They were 0-2, the defense had given up 80 points and the offense was sputtering. Even some die-hard fans felt the season was over. Playoffs? Maybe next year. The Super Bowl? "Fuhggedaboudit". What followed over the next four months was an impossible dream which culminated in the Giants' stunning victory over the previously unbeaten New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. This was the Giants' third Super Bowl victory - but perhaps their greatest singular achievement.

Finally, the cries that Peyton Manning and the Colts couldn't win the big one have been forever silenced. With their rain-soaked victory over the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI, the Colts claimed their first World Championship in 36 years. It was a defense that struggled against the run during the regular season that reigned supreme in January - first stopping Kansas City's Larry Johnson and then Baltimore's Jamal Lewis.

All droughts end with rain. The cleansing washes away all of the curses and superstitions and omprobable losses. The Chicago Cubs ended their drought. Fly the W!
