The award winning Nickelpoint Vienna Lager has a moderately rich German malt aroma very much like the Marzen, but is a little lower in gravity. With a firm enough hop bitterness and an elegant malt complexity, Vienna Lager has a clean lager finish and a light to medium body. Overall impression can be characterized by the soft yet elegant maltiness that dries out in the finish. Won 3rd place in NC State Brewers Cup in the category of Commercial European Amber Lager. Credit for original Vienna Lager goes to Anton Dreher who developed the recipe shortly after isolating the lager yeast. Ironically, the original recipe is almost extinct in the areas of origin, but continues to be prevalent in Mexico thanks to many Austrian immigrant brewers in the 1800’s.
